George Orwell's 1984
In the book "1984" Orwell condemned the totalitarianism of all types and raises questions about the social situation of citizens and the role of politics in society. Orwell describes the events, experience, time, memories through different "frames" and symbols to compel the reader to think more deeply the message of the novel. Based on Orwell's novel on three "pillars" of themes: the paperweight, pyramids Ministry and Goldstein's book that have ulterior motives unveiled throughout the novel. These symbols seem deferent, but are closely linked each other points to be of totalitarianism and personal freedom.
The paperweight symbolizes the past for Winston who tries to remember those days without the Party. "In fact, the idea was first floated in the head like a vision of glass paperweight mirrored by the surface of the folding table "(Orwell, Chapter 4, Part II). The paperweight symbolizes dreams of freedom for Winston and the desire to establish a connection with past ruined by the Party. Orwell incorporates this symbol as an object which recalls past events and feelings excited. The choice of an antique shop where Winston bought clipboard is not accidental. This means that the party can not control the memory of people, and there are places important things and people. "It's a bit of history that they forgot to edit. This is a message from a hundred years ago, if we knew how to read" (Orwell, Chapter 4, part II). Orwell says freedom and memories, is more than the absence of physical coercion. In an even larger scale, the clipboard can be viewed as a sacrifice for freedom and freedom of all the characters in the novel who suffered under the sinful hand Fiesta. Orwell incorporates this symbol as a reality that people do not want to see and understand, despite that the Department of pyramids are visual objects, but people are "blind" to see the truth.
We conclude that Orwell skillfully joins three elements as the absolute key to further progress towards the ultimate goal of freedom to enjoy personal freedoms. Past present and future is a very unique, because nobody can live without memories, hopes and expectations have a direct bearing on the present. The three symbols help to unite people and time, and most importantly, join the peace broken personality.
